Leopards and Tigers and Bugs, Oh My!

Yesterday at around 5:45pm, a good friend of mine called me telling me she had a question that she thought I would be able to answer. I thought she wanted directions to a place as a few of my friends and I often call each other for directions hoping that the other person is in front of a computer. (It didn’t occur to me that her BlackBerry would have served that purpose.)

She was walking around downtown San Francisco and saw a huge line on Stockton Street and she wondered if people were waiting in line for free stuff and doubted they were in line for the Armani Exchange store which was next door.

I told her that if she got in line, she might get free stuff. After all, it was the launch of the latest upgrade to the Mac OS X Operating System code named Leopard and at one of the previous launches, I know someone who won both a laptop and an iPod.

She decided against standing in line, but seemed content with my explanation.

I also got an email from Apple an hour before the launch. Read more about it here.

As mentioned in the post linked above, I’m looking forward to the new features including:

  1. Mail - create notes and to do items within the email program, although the stationery templates are annoying (more fluffy and embellished emails are not necessary)
  2. Time Machine - a complete backup setup that allows you to revert your computer to any previous day (e.g. getting back a 5 day old version of a document you were working on)
  3. Spaces - a virtual desktop that allows you to hide the clutter of windows (that I really liked in the Unix Operating System)
